Emily's Monthly Wrap-Up August The summer is quickly coming to a close and GRSD is making the most of every moment. The Van Andel Institute invited our group along to their annual employee outing and Community for a Cure “purple” Whitecaps game. The feast included a BBQ style spread on the Miller Lite Party deck for everyone to enjoy the baseball action.
Some notable music events happening this month including Rob Bliss and his second annual Grand Rapids Electronic Music Night. Over 10,000 people packed Calder Plaza to dance the night away to local talent DJ Sonrize Wallace, DJ Steve Swift, DJ Brandon Hill, and DJ SuperDre opened up for headliner DJ Kalendar, from Chicago. Then we got our summer surf music fix from GRSD's personal favorite, the Concussions, who opened for Rock-a-billy artist Deke Dickerson in our Eastown favorite hotspot, Billy’s.
This month the AIGA West Michigan brought their NO AGENDA event on to the lovely veranda at the GRAM for networking, cocktails and a great view of Grand Rapids on a warm summer night. On the other side of the City, Stella’s Lounge hosted the Grand Rapids Film Reel Networking event. Aspiring filmmakers, crew and actors gathered to make connections and chat about the exciting film happenings around town.
And to round out the month we were so thrilled to attend the Cattle Baron’s Ball. The annual event benefits American Cancer Society and raised over $230,000 to help support cancer victims and help fund research to combat the disease. Cowboys and cowgirls danced the night away to the soundscape of DJ Rekka. We are excited to get into September. Our coverage will include sneak peeks at exclusive ArtPrize parties. Behind the scenes with the artisits. We'll be all over Grand Rapids! Look for us at Prospecto, Style Battle, Whole Notes - Eat Local, Sing Global, Ella Bullis Foundation Art Prize Exhibit, the ArtPrize Artist's Brunch and the Live! and Local Festival in Ada. We're very much looking forward to attending a celebration of Grand Rapids local Mary Kathleen Hoodhood who received the Presidential Citizens Medal for a lifetime of service to Kids Food Basket.
