John Ball Zoo celebrated "bayou" style at the 21st-Annual Rendezoo. This year's Mardi Gras-style party was to raise money for the zoo. This year, the big party also highlighed the zoo's newest addition: Mighty Mike, an 800-pound alligator. Mike is 13-foot gator who came here from Tallahassee, Florida last month.

Lots of fantastic items were auctioned off, including a chance to feed Mighty Mike, won by Tony Caprara. The event was dubbed 'Johnbalaya', with creole and cajon cooking on the menu, and the zoo decorated Mardi Gras style.

Each year this event helps keep the zoo accessible and affordable to the Grand Rapids community. It is the largest fundraiser that the zoo puts on. It's no small fete. It requires the entire staff. The money raised helps keep educational programs in place at the zoo. The event raised more than $50,000 for John Ball Zoo programs.
