Pillar Awards: Empowering Women at Work

Since 1987, Women's Resource Center has honored West Michigan employers who are empowering women in their workforce with progressive policies and practices that recruit, retain and advance women in the workplace.

This year, Women’s Resource Center was pleased to present the 2010 Huntington Pillar Award to Varnum, Grand Valley State University, and AngelCare Home Health Care. The inaugural “Champions for Change” award was given to the Women’s Initiative Network at Herman Miller.

Women’s Resource Center client Gwendolyn Miller closed out the event with her testimonial, sharing how she was divorced with two young daughters and little work history and skills. Through the help of Women’s Resource Center, Gwendolyn was able to find full-time employment as a Financial Counselor and is currently attending college and will graduate next year. The crowd was moved to a standing ovation by her emotional story.

Over 450 business and community leaders attended the luncheon awards ceremony and over $35,000 was raised for the comprehensive employment services of Women’s Resource Center.
