The East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation presented a fantastic musical opportunity to their community and did so with huge success.

Brian Vander Ark, lead singer and principal song writer for the Verve Pipe as well as successful solo artist, performed an all ages concert at the East Grand Rapids High School Performing Arts Center.

Brian's music is an inspired collection of original songs that take an intimate look at life while exploring themes of family, love and loss. His gift is one of tremendous storytelling clarity expressed through melodies and rhythms that are unique, riveting, intensely personal and entirely gripping.

The East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation partnered with the Class of 2011 and kicked off the event with a Battle of the Bands two days prior to Brian VanderArk playing. Battle of the Bands was an open competition to current and alumni bands of East Grand Rapids High School. The winner of the Battle opened up for Brian on the Saturday evening event. The EGRSF provided a fantastic opportunity for their students to both perform and enjoy the musical talents within their own community.

The EGRSF will use the proceeds raised from the show to continue enriching the educational experience of their students in the East Grand Rapids Public Schools by funding excellence in teaching and learning that requires financial support beyond the district.

The East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation has just funded over $37,000 in grant requests during its 2009 fall grant session. These grants included a classroom math library, many technological enhancements, funding for new band and orchestra uniforms, computer editing stations for our student TV production studio, and many more.

A creative idea that can serve as a role model for other schools that need extra financial support.
