The GRAM rings their 100th Anniversary year in style! 31 December 2009 ~ Downtown ~ Grand Rapids - The GRSD grabbed a glass of champagne, a cup of hot chocolate and celebrated the coming of the New Year with the Grand Rapids Art Museum. This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the museum which was founded in 1910. Much to celebrate about. In the East Court the museum featured a Family Art Studio. Then a fun Gallery Mystery Game that resulted in great prizes. In the East Court they featured a "Capture a Memory Sketching Area" and there was a DJ with dancing in the auditorium until midnight. The galleries were open all evening. Patrons had amazing views from the windows and front steps of the Art Museum. Families of all ages enjoyed a night out. The GRAM will continue to celebrate the Centennial by introducing GRAM Conversations: 100 Years of Inspired Art Dialogue. On January 29: David Lubbers and the Grand Dance Team. The February Conversation: Theater Calling all playwrights to the Art Museum for the month of February. February 5: Considering Calder, short plays and essays by GRAM Theater Group, playwright Randy Wyatt, writer Tommy Allen, and arts organizer Fred Bivins celebrating the new exhibition Calder Jewelry and GR's connection to the artist (Part of "Party of the Century"). February 12: The Art Plays, site-specific (performed in galleries) short plays written by local playwrights based on favorite artwork choices by GRAM guests randomly selected the week before. February 19: Works in Progress, excerpt readings of plays from Stephanie Sandberg, Austin Bunn and others. February 26: Panel: Theater in Grand Rapids. Founders and managing directors of local theater -- from Actors' to Super Happy Funtime -- participate in a panel discussion about the state of theater in our community today and where it might be heading. Moderated by Shelley Irwin, WGVU Radio.
