XO - Downtown - Grand Rapids – 16 September 2009 On a sunny yet very brisk day, GRSD decided to warm up with a spicy lunch in downtown Grand Rapids. With a diverse menu of Thai, Japanese, and Chinese dishes, XO Cuisine on Monroe Center was just what the weather called for. The seasonal outdoor seating is great for people watching along Monroe Mall and once inside the unfussy interior with a motif of dark red walls and golden hues gets you in the mood for some delicious Asian cuisine.
The kitchen can make any order spicy to taste, from just a hint of seasoning to wipe-your-forehead-fire-alarm sweaty. XO Cuisine's lunch menu is where it's at, with hearty portions (plus a spring roll, soup or salad) at fewer than 10 dollars. For those of you in the comfort food mindset, we recommend the Honey Mustard Chicken and the Pad Thai. But even try ordering something new and you'll be glad that you did!
XO Cuisine is open 7 days a week, later on Fridays and Saturdays, and has a fully stocked bar for those who want to make a Dinner Date downtown. For lunchtime in the summer, they have a cart out near the street stocked with basic Chinese menu dishes in to-go fashion for those in a hurry. Whatever time of day you are out and about looking at the ArtPrize entries, when you start getting hungry from all the walking, point your feet in the direction of XO Cuisine. ~ Chad and Emily
